Strengthening Outcome-Based Education through Modern Pedagogical Practices

ICT-based STC on “Outcome Based Education (OBE)” – NITTTR Chandigarh

On 29 October 2025, an online session on Pedagogical Aspects in Modern Teaching was delivered as part of the One Week ICT-based Short-Term Course (STC) on “Outcome Based Education (OBE)”, organized by the Department of Education and Educational Management, NITTTR Chandigarh, held from October 27–31, 2025. The programme wasaimed at strengthening faculty understanding of learner-centric and outcome-oriented instructional practices.

The session focused on understanding modern pedagogy in the context of OBE and the evolving role of teachers—from traditional content delivery to facilitation of learning. Emphasis was placed on aligning teaching strategies with NEP 2020, which advocates holistic, experiential, and multidisciplinary education. Participants explored how effective pedagogy directly impacts learning outcomes by shifting classrooms from teacher-centric to learner-centric environments that encourage engagement, reflection, and application..

Various innovative teaching methodologies were discussed in detail, including Flipped Classroom, Blended Learning, Constructivist and Experiential Learning, Learning-by-Teaching, Project-Based Learning (PBL), Case-Based Learning (CBL), Outcome-Based Learning (OBL), and Design Thinking. Each approach was supported with real-life classroom examples from engineering education, demonstrating measurable improvements in student engagement, attendance, conceptual clarity, and performance. The session highlighted how instructional design models such as ADDIE can be used to systematically plan, deliver, and evaluate learning experiences aligned with clearly defined outcomes.

A distinctive feature of the session was the integration of reflective prompts after each pedagogical concept. Faculty participants were encouraged to introspect on their own teaching practices, identify topics suitable for pedagogical innovation, and share their perspectives. This reflective approach promoted active participation and helped educators visualize how these methodologies could be adapted within their own institutional and disciplinary contexts.
The session concluded with a strong emphasis on integrating multiple pedagogical approaches rather than using them in isolation. Participants discussed how combinations such as Flipped Learning with Case-Based Teaching or PBL with Learning-by-Teaching can lead to deeper understanding and stronger skill development, while OBE acts as the unifying framework that ties pedagogy, assessment, and learning outcomes together.

Gratitude is extended to NITTTR Chandigarh and the Department of Education and Educational Management for organizing this NEP2020 aligned ICT-based STC. Special thanks to Dr. A.B. Gupta, Senior Professor and Head, for his kind invitation and coordination of the program. Appreciation is also extended to the faculty and all participants for their enthusiastic engagement, curiosity, and insightful questions, which made the session highly interactive and enriching.
